Even I have to admit, the Russia – Collusion narrative had gotten a wee-bit exhausting. CNN and MSNBC had back-to-back coverage on an issue that had no physical evidence to support its claims. It became a tiring narrative until Donald Trump Jr shot himself in the foot.
Let me explain.
Up until last Sunday, the Russia Collusion story was pretty much a talking point for the democrats and the main stream media. Yes, there were a few discrepancies and Donald Trump himself seemed a little too cozy with the Russians, but nothing came to light that would prove the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.
On Sunday however, The New York Times broke a story about a secret meeting between Donald Trump Jr and a Russian Lawyer named Natalia Veselnitskaya. Don Jr quickly dismissed the meeting to be about Russian adoption laws and nothing to the effect of collusion. However, his story quickly changed when on Tuesday he was forced to release his own emails on twitter after receiving notice that the New York Times was about to break another story on details of the meeting.
Yup, Don Jr tweeted out his own emails that prove there was, at minimum, an attempt to collude with the Russian government. The email was between Don Jr and Rob Goldstone, a British publicist who was communicating on behalf of Emin Agalarov, a Russian music popstar.
The initial email from Mr. Goldstone read: “This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”
Don Jr’s response was “If it’s what you say I love it”
You know the saying “Like Father, Like Son?” I can’t think of a better way to describe how dumb Don Jr’s use of twitter is. I mean, why would you release emails that CLEARLY show you attempted to collude with the Russian Government.
Donald Trump, Don Jr, Kellyanne Conway and the rest of the squad spent the entire week explaining the meeting as ‘opposition research.’
I understand that opposition research is a part of every political campaign, but opposition research doesn’t normally occur in collusion with a foreign government, especially an adversarial government like Russia.
I wish the Trump campaign luck in overcoming this one. The question now is where will these new revelations take us? I suspect Robert Mueller will soon tell.
